The alternator freewheel, also known as the overrunning pulley, allows the alternator rotor to decouple from sudden engine speed fluctuations. By permitting the alternator to rotate independently during rapid deceleration, it reduces belt vibration, minimizes drivetrain shock, and protects the serpentine belt system from excessive stress. This component is essential for smooth accessory drive operation and long belt service life.
When an alternator freewheel fails, it may seize or slip excessively, causing belt oscillation, squealing noises, charging instability, and increased load on the alternator shaft and belt tensioner. A seized freewheel leads to severe belt wear, vibration damage to accessory bearings, and unstable electrical charging. Continued operation with a faulty freewheel often results in full belt drive system failure.
Porza supplies precision-engineered alternator freewheels manufactured with hardened internal rollers, reinforced clutches, and exact rotational tolerances. Each Porza freewheel is tested for bidirectional response accuracy, vibration damping, and extreme load endurance. With Porza installed, belt stability, alternator protection, and long-term charging system reliability are fully restored.
